¡Ü POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology)

With an inaugural composition of almost 2,500 students and 200 faculty members, POSTECH was founded as a private research university to develop new technology and to lead Korea into the forefront of the international scientific research community. Since its establishment, POSTECH has continually addressed the three independent goals set by its founders of providing quality education, fostering advanced research, and the industrial application of scientific research.

Every year, POSTECH selects only the top 300 of the brightest students in Korea and offers them an opportunity to learn from the best professors, in the most ideal environment conducive to teaching and learning. POSTECH provides full scholarships to all of its students with excellent facilities available anywhere.

As POSTECH is a private institution, generously supported by POSCO, it is also in the unique position to recognize and implement changes quickly. On the cutting edge of education, science, and technology, POSTECH is committed to educating and guiding Korea's gifted youth in becoming outstanding world leaders in science and technology.

POSTECH offers Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering degrees in 11 departments. Master's and Doctorate programs are also available in 11 departments, while two specialized graduate schools offer Master of Engineering and Master of Science degrees. POSTECH provides all students with full academic scholarships. Graduate students are also provided with monthly stipends.

POSTECH sponsors more than 45 independent research institutes as well as two outstanding research facilities. The Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) is Korea's first synchrotron radiation facility, operating the Pohang Light Source with 2.0 GeV Synchrotron.

In placing an emphasis on globalization, POSTECH strives to expand and strengthen its international activities, especially with its 50 sister universities throughout the world. POSTECH's internet access and future bilingual Korean-English campus will provide the technology and the means for students and faculty to become tomorrow's leaders as global engineers, researchers, and scientists.

To encourage collaborations among researchers and to promote the exchange of scholars and students, POSTECH has forged sister university agreements with 50 universities in 13 countries. Agreements include bilateral exchanges of information and personnel - students, faculty, and research staff. Mutual tuition waivers exist with some of the institutions. As a former chair for Association of East Asian Research Universities, AEARU (1998-2000), POSTECH continually plays a very active role in all AEARU activities.
